Update On Current COVID-19 Vaccines

Guest: Dr. Bhavna Lall

Recently, those eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine has expanded and its availability has increased. Dr. Bhavna Lall, an internal medicine physician and faculty in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the University of Houston College of Medicine says it is important to obtain the vaccine when available to you and continue to wear masks.

“There are now three vaccines authorized for emergency use. The FDA and the CDC have declared the Pfizer, Moderna, and the Johnson and Johnson vaccines as being safe and effective. They all prevent hospitalizations and deaths from the virus. In addition, there is evidence these vaccines may help decrease asymptomatic transmission. You can take any of the authorized COVID-19 vaccinations offered to you in the U.S.”

“It is essential you continue to wear masks outside your immediate household contacts and continue to practice COVID19 precautions. Double masking has been shown to significantly reduce the spread of COVID19 as well. You may also use a KN95 or N95 mask to protect yourself and others.”
