Tips For A Healthy Smile

Guest: Dr. Brian Reed

Oral hygiene can be an afterthought at times. Dr. Brian Reed, Chair of Clinical Sciences at the University of Houston College of Medicine has tips for a healthy smile.

“The mouth is a window to the entire body. Poor oral health can lead to gum disease and tooth decay. Gum disease has been linked to several systemic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and cancers.”

Here are some routine things that you can do to improve your oral health:

  • Brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss once a day.
  • Make healthy food choices and avoid diets that are high in sugar and acid.
  • Lastly, routine dental check-ups and cleanings every 6 months are important even in the midst of this global pandemic.

“Dentists use an array of infection control procedures to ensure the safety of their patients. These include N-95 masks, face shields, air filtration and more. Take care of your smile!”

Thanks to Dr. Danielle Reed DDS for her contributions with this episode.
