Guest: Dr. Camille Leugers

Exercising is good for your heart. Dr. Camille Leugers, a family physician in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the University of Houston College of Medicine has some tips to help you exercise safely during the pandemic..

“Heart disease causes 1 in 4 deaths in the United States. When it comes to taking care of your heart, regular exercise is key, though the need for social distancing can make it a bit challenging.”

“Here are 4 tips to help you:

  • Start small – set an activity goal that is manageable.
  • Walk, run or bike outside, staying 6 feet from others. Staying close to home or outdoors is the safest option right now.
  • If you do use a gym, make sure they require everyone to wear a mask and cleans surfaces regularly. You should maintain the appropriate distance and wash your hands often.
  • Aim for 20 minutes of activity every day.”

“Remember, every move you make helps keep your heart healthy.”
