Under President Donald Trump and a Republican majority in Congress, the future of the Affordable Care Act is uncertain.
Seth Chandler, a professor and a contributor to the Forbes Apothecary blog thinks there is one area where the ACA is most vulnerable.
“President Trump could stop unauthorized federal payments to insurers,” Professor Chandler said. “If he does stop these ‘cost sharing reduction’ payments, many insurance policies will become more expensive or unavailable.”
Chandler says we should also watch this process at the state level.
“A number of Republican proposals would give more power and resources back to the states, allowing them to allocate or withhold resources, and impose regulations,” he continued. “Texans should keep an eye on Austin as well as Washington, as our local lawmakers will then have a greater impact on access to care.”
