Thirty-two-year-old Latina attorney Camila Harrison appears to be on top of the world. She is a successful real estate lawyer and senior partner at a prestigious Austin law firm. She is engaged to a Texas Supreme Court justice.

The only difficulty is one that Camila tries to keep hidden from the world at large — she is uncomfortable with and even disdainful of her Latina heritage. In fact, she holds a decidedly unfavorable view of undocumented Mexican immigrants.

Unfortunately for Camila, evidence of her negative views regarding immigration and immigrants leaks out to the public and she is forced to resign from her law firm, her engagement is called off and she decides to leave Austin in order to salvage what remains of her legal career.

In his latest legal thriller, The Paper Lawyer, veteran author and attorney Carlos Cisneros takes us through what initially appears to be a slam dunk federal drug money laundering case. Camila Harrison, now relocated to Houston, is assigned to defend an undocumented Mexican immigrant who is arrested while driving a Chevy Tahoe stuffed with what appears to be illegal drug money.

In order to successfully represent her client, Camila will have to overcome limited resources, a corrupt legal system and her own prejudices.
