An Underwater Look at the Gulf of Mexico

A Houston writer and photographer hopes to improve understanding of the Gulf of Mexico by showing more of what it looks like — underneath the surface.

Glorious Gulf of Mexico - Book CoverHouston-based writer and photographer Jesse Cancelmo has published a book that he hopes will inspire better understanding and appreciation of the Gulf of Mexico.

It’s called Glorious Gulf of Mexico: Life Below the Blue, and he joined back in April us to talk about his work.

Cancelmo discussed what prompted him to do the book, why he thinks the Gulf of Mexico gets a bad rap in terms of its aquatic life — at least compared to the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans — and he tried to clear up some misconceptions about the gulf.
