Story Corps

Pralay, Pia and Chandra Das

When Pralay Das decided he was ready to marry, he placed a couple of personal ads in a local newspaper in his hometown in India. Among the 500 responses was one from his future wife, Chandra. Their meeting was a topic of interest for their daughter, Pia, during their StoryCorps interview.

The value of education is one of many things Pralay and Chandra Das shared prior to their marriage. In fact, when Chandra responded to Pralay’s newspaper ad seeking a bride, his education is what piqued her attention. After Pralay received his engineering degree in the United States, he returned home to India to find a bride. After Pralay and Chandra were married, they moved to America and began a family. The value of education, the importance of family and the love of travel are qualities they passed along to their three daughters. Their middle daughter, Pia, was the inquisitor during their StoryCorps interview and the result is a loving and honest conversation between parents and a child.
