Trees were downed after a storm that officials believe was a tornado came through Montgomery County on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.

The clean up process has begun on Wednesday in Conroe after a house collapsed during severe storms on Tuesday in Montgomery County, near Willis, killing two people.

The house was in the beginning stages of construction when the storm hit. Construction workers were on the second floor when high winds caused the entire structure to collapse. Two people were killed and seven other workers were injured.

One of the men killed was identified as Brayan Rubi Lopez Aguilar, 21, by his father. The other man killed was later identified as Angel Gumaro Huerta Pedraza, 30, by a family member, according to KHOU.

The Burnt Mills subdivision near Lake Conroe also received extensive damage, which officials say could have been caused by a tornado. Officials have yet to determine if it was a tornado or straight line winds.

"In the Corinthian Pointe subdivision at Calvary Rd. and I-45, there are trees down and powerlines down on roadways,” said Meghan Arthur, Public Information Officer at the Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. “We're assuming a tornado touched down, but that hasn’t been confirmed."

Willis and Conroe ISDs are closed Wednesday as a result of power outages caused by storms. Willis ISD says graduation is still on track for next week.
