METRO to offer free rides to polling locations in Houston next week

Voters need to inform bus operators or fare inspectors that they are going to, or coming from a polling location for a free lift next week.

Starting next week, METRO Houston will offer free rides to polling locations around the city next week.

The accommodation is available to all registered voters within the city for the first week of early voting from Oct. 23 to Oct. 29, and on election day, Nov. 7.

Voters only need to inform bus operators or fare inspectors they are going, or returning from the voting location polls for a free lift, according to Metro.

The service comes as a partnership with the League of Women Voters. Voters can ride for no charge on METRORail, local buses, METRORapid, curb2curb and METROlift paratransit services.

Patrons needing customized directions can map out their trip at RideMETRO.org or on the RideMETRO app.

About 68 polling locations in the Houston area will open for elections this year. A map of those locations can be found here.
