TxDOT originally planned to close part of eastbound I-10 so it could repair damage to the Houston Avenue Bridge that was caused by an oversized truck back in December. Just as crews were putting barriers in place ahead of tonight's closure, another truck hit the bridge around 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 2nd. It damaged the same beams that needed to be repaired.
TxDOT's Danny Perez said they're moving ahead with tonight's shutdown, which also includes Houston Avenue over I-10. They're asking drivers to heed the detour signs.
"It's really important to keep the traffic out of the adjacent communities," said Perez. "So we're making a significant effort to work with our law enforcement partners."
That closure starts at 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 2nd. Eastbound traffic will be detoured onto the 610 Loop. Local traffic can exit at Shepherd. The westbound lanes won't be affected.
TxDOT expects to reopen eastbound I-10 by 5:00 a.m. Monday, March 5th.
