Montrose residents are petitioning the city to address that neighborhood's deteriorating sidewalks. The Montrose Sidewalk Coalition says cracked sidewalks pose a danger – they'd like the city to offer a plan to the public to address the state of their sidewalks and ensure safety and access.
There’s just one problem: according to city law, property owners – not the city – are responsible for maintaining sidewalks.
On this edition of Houston Matters, we discuss walkability in Greater Houston, from concerns over the condition of sidewalks in neighborhoods like Montrose, to the utter lack of them in some other Greater Houston communities. We welcome your questions and comments for Alvin Wright, spokesperson for the City of Houston's Department of Public Works and Engineering, and David Crossley, the President of Houston Tomorrow.
Also this hour: once again, Houston Matters goes to the dogs...and cats, as we welcome your questions for Dr. Lori Teller from the Meyerland Animal Clinic. She addresses any concerns you might have about the care and feeding of your canine or feline companions.
Plus: CultureMap Houston sports columnist MK Bower joins us to discuss the latest in Houston sports.
