Dozens of schools are closed today and transportation officials are warning motorists to stay off the roads after a mix of rain and below-freezing temperatures overnight brought on icy conditions for the Greater Houston area.

Today on Houston Matters, we’ll discuss how TX DOT prepared for the region’s winter storm and how emergency officials will be monitoring conditions throughout today. Plus, a look at the conditions in the days ahead.

And, a lot can happen in a week-some of it good, some of it bad, and some of it downright ugly. As we do every Friday, we’ll turn to our rotating panel of “non-experts” to break down “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” of it all. Today, we’ll be joined by the Houston Chronicle’s Kyrie O’Conner, Dianah Dulany of ComedySportz Houston, and parenting blogger Fred Goodall.

Plus, the Houston Chamber Choir’s annual festival will showcase three school choirs from our region this Sunday. Houston Matters’ Edel Howlin tells us what we can expect.
