The Real Rules of Houston Roads

Beginning Sept. 1, the “Move Over/Slow Down” law on Texas roads will apply to TxDOT crews, as well as police, emergency responders and tow trucks. In essence, the law states that if you see any of these folks along the side of the road, you need to move over or slow down.

It’s one of those common sense laws – and driving habits – that we should all engage in, and yet – let’s face it — many Houstonians don’t. We all see poor driving behavior on our Houston highways and byways.

Host Craig Cohen talked with Trooper Richard Standifer from the Texas Department of Public Safety and KUHF’s transportation reporter Gail DeLaughter about some of the more basic rules of the road that seem too often to be disregarded – from tailgating to changing lanes without signaling, to excessive speeding, to a general disregard for other drivers.
