Channelview ISD is celebrating its former student — Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Hurts and the Eagles will take on the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl on Sunday. To celebrate, Channelview ISD is making Friday, February 10, ‘Fly Eagles Fly’ Day.
"This is an exciting week for Channelview, Texas and Channelview ISD." said Channelview ISD Superintendent Dr. Tory C. Hill.
Hurts graduated from Channelview High School in 2016 where he played football and competed in power lifting. He was recruited to play college football at the University of Alabama before transferring to the University of Oklahoma in 2019. Hurts was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles and is among a handful of players being considered for NFL MVP honors.
Dr. Hill says Hurts remains a loyal supporter to his former high school.
"Jalen definitely has never forgotten his roots and for that we are extremely grateful."
Channelview ISD is in the middle of a theme week honoring Hurts leading up to the Super Bowl. Students were encouraged to wear clothing with the number 1 on Monday, which is the same number Hurts wears. And on Friday, students are being asked to wear Eagles clothing as they celebrate ‘Fly Eagles Fly' Day to support their former quarterback.
