The 85th regular session of the Texas Legislature wrapped up this week with some contention — and even threats of violence. Also, lawmakers passed a $217 billion budget to run the state for the next two year, and Gov. Greg Abbott says he’ll decide sometime this week if he wants to call a special session to address some other issues the legislature was unable to settle.

On the heels of those stories, it’s the perfect time for another edition of our weekly political round up with analysis of national, state, and local political stories with an eye toward how they might affect Greater Houston.

Today, our guests are: Brandon Rottinghaus, professor of political science at the University of Houston and co-host of Houston Public Media’s Party Politics podcast; Mark Jones, political science fellow at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy; and Andrew Schneider, politics and government reporter for News 88.7 (who’s been in Austin the last several days covering developments at the legislature).
