Between recent census figures and a new report from the Office of the State Demographer, growth is the word on many people's lips in Texas. The report says the state’s population could double by 2050. That’s if migration patterns continue along the same trends seen from 2000 to 2010.

On this edition of Houston Matters, we’re joined by State Demographer Dr. Lloyd Potter. He discusses what groups and ages will grow the most and how it will all affect the state.

Then: one million residents of Harris County were born outside the United States. That’s roughly 25 percent of the population. In a new collaborative series called The Million, Houston Public Media and the Houston Chronicle are telling the stories of this diverse group of Houstonians. We learn more about the series and visit a local high school where several girls from different countries regularly each lunch together in the school cafeteria.

And CultureMap Houston’s MK Bower joins us for an update on the latest in Houston sports news.
