Two weeks ago, Houston Matters profiled all nine of the candidates on the ballot for mayor of Houston. Just two – incumbent Mayor Annise Parker and challenger Ben Hall have polled above single digits, so we reached out to those two campaigns, in the interests of giving you a chance to speak with the two candidates directly. Last week, Mayor Parker joined us. Today, it’s Ben Hall’s turn.

Ben Hall is an attorney and an ordained minister. He was a city attorney in the Lanier administration back in the early 1990s. He was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina, has a law degree from Harvard and since 2000, has run his own law firm. He also preaches regularly. In a recent profile, the Houston Chronicle notes Hall’s outgoing personality, commanding presence, and ambition, but notes that Hall himself has acknowledged – quote – “struggling with ego and vanity.”

This hour, we welcome your questions for mayoral candidate Ben Hall.

Plus we learn how some popular phrases in the English language have their roots in the graveyard.
