Mayor Parker Announces Winners of Anti-Texting Video Contest

After 11 video submissions were received from high school students in the Houston area, Mayor Annise Parker announced yesterday that Aman Narayan, George Chuang and Liana Wang were the Youth Council contest winners of her "It Can Wait, Houston" campaign against texting and driving.

Aman Narayan, the Student Government Association President of Bellaire High School, is one of the scriptwriters and producers of the video titled ‘The Lost Gift.” A member of the Bellaire Debate Team, Narayan will be a senior in the fall.

Liana Wang, one of the producers, will be a sophomore at Bellaire in the fall. Wang is involved with numerous extra-curricular activities such as the debate team and Student Government Association, serving as the Sophomore Class president.

George Chuang is the short-film’s director, producer, scriptwriter and editor. “The Lost Gift” is not the first award-winning video he has produced. Last year, Chuang was the 2012 Show Me ILPC Documentary winner, along with his partner Penny Nguyen. The Interscholastic League Press Conference offers yearbook, newspaper, broadcast and documentary competitions for its student-members as a means of teaching critical thinking skills in students during the various workshops.

Their video will be used by the Houston Fire and Police Departments in safety presentations at Houston area schools, in addition to being promoted through social media. The second place submission was from Memorial High School Debate Team, following the Kingwood High School in third place.
