Still need a Mother’s Day gift for your animal-loving mother? The Houston Zoo is offering personalized Cameo videos featuring popular zoo animals.

The videos, which are made for each recipient, start at $25. This is the zoo’s third year in a row offering the unique gift.

“The Houston Zoo started offering Cameo videos in 2020 as a way to brighten someone's day with a special video greeting featuring some of the Houston Zoo's animals during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Jessica Reyes, a spokesperson for the Zoo.

Most of the videos feature a zookeeper with an animal and giving a special message and facts about the animal. The animals are typically the focus of the video, and can be seen eating, sleeping or lounging around. People can choose from a rhino, llama, sloth or elephant.

Those interested can sign up on the Cameo website, and must provide their name, who the video is for, the occasion, and any special message they would like to include.

These are not exclusive to Mother’s Day, Reyes said.

“These are available all year long,” she said. “Cameos are available for various occasions.”

Reyes added that Cameos were started to keep the community connected to the Houston Zoo during the pandemic, but was embraced by the community.

“The community has embraced this unique way to wish someone a happy birthday, anniversary or a simple pep talk and the Houston Zoo has maintained this online presence ever since,” Reyes said. “A portion of the proceeds from these videos are used to help save animals in the wild by supporting the Houston Zoo's conservation partners around the world.”
