An article published by GQ magazine describes Houston as the new capital of Southern cool.
Writer Brett Martin, who was interviewed on Texas Standard, says Houston was already known as one of the nation's leading "food cities," but there is much more going on than that.
In his article, Martin underlines that Houston’s youthfulness, diversity and growth are making the Bayou City look more like the American city of the future.
Martin explains that “a series of public-private partnerships has worked to develop the kind of amenities and public spaces that cool cities tend to have.” The article lists Buffalo Bayou Park, Discovery Green, downtown attractions and bike lanes as some of the public spaces and amenities that are making the largest city in the southern United States increasingly cool.
