Fort Bend County Announces First Coronavirus-Related Death

The unidentified woman in her 70s had “significant pre-existing medical conditions,” and was hospitalized prior to her death, the county said.

Fort Bend County on Friday announced the county’s first coronavirus-related death.

The county Health & Human Services department said the unidentified woman in her 70s had “significant pre-existing medical conditions,” and was hospitalized prior to her death. Doctors said COVID-19 was a contributor to her death, according to the county.

She died at a local hospital late Wednesday, and Fort Bend HHS received test results Friday confirming she had COVID-19 before passing away.

“The hearts and prayers of Fort Bend County are with the patient’s family in these trying times,” read a statement from Fort Bend County Judge KP George.

George urged the community to follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and to adhere to the Fort Bend County stay-at-home order.

As of Friday, there were at least 86 cases of COVID-19 in Fort Bend County.
