The reactions to and implications of President Trump’s stunning firing Tuesday of FBI Director James Comey continue to unfold moment by moment. This morning, Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, on the floor of the Senate, called for a special prosecutor to take over the FBI investigation.

Today on Houston Matters, we recap what’s happened, and discuss what may be coming next, in our political roundup.

We welcome your questions and comments for Jay Aiyer of Texas Southern University and co-host of Houston Public Media’s new Party Politics podcast; Mark Jones, political science fellow at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy; and Andrew Schneider, politics and government reporter for News 88.7

We also discuss other developments in politics and government, including: the House of Representatives passing a bill to repeal or modify elements of the Affordable Care Act; testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee by James Clapper, former Director of National Intelligence, and Sally Yates, former Acting Attorney General; Gov. Greg Abbott signing into law the so-called “sanctuary cities” bill, which makes it a criminal offense for local law enforcement not to cooperate with ICE officials; and the passage of Houston’s pension reform bill, with amendments sought by firefighters.
