According to the Texas Board of Nursing, there are more than 32,000 registered nurses in Harris County, and those numbers are expected to grow in the coming years. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports employment of registered nurses is projected to grow 19 percent from 2012 to 2022.

But while the demand for nurses is there, supply is falling short, and that gap is expected to intensify as Baby Boomers age and the need for health care grows.
