Throughout the summer, Houston Matters is dedicating time each week to books about Greater Houston, set in Greater Houston or written or edited by Houstonians.

John P. McGovern might be a familiar name to many Houstonians. He established the nation’s largest privately owned allergy clinic and was a respected philanthropist.

His friend and colleague, Bryant Boutwell, has written a biography of McGovern, his career in medicine and his legacy in Greater Houston called John P. McGovern, MD: A Lifetime of Stories.
