While we’re a month away from a local election, including a mayoral race, many political eyes are transfixed on Election Day 2014. That’s when a gubernatorial election will be held to replace incumbent Rick Perry, who previously announced he will not seek another term in office. The plot thickened Thursday, when State Senator Wendy Davis officially threw her hat in the ring to run for Governor.

On this edition of Houston Matters, we discuss the political implications of Davis’s announcement, and what it may signal for efforts by folks at Battleground Texas to turn the Lone Star state blue…and efforts among the GOP to keep control of the office of Governor, as Attorney General Greg Abbott seeks to succeed Governor Perry.

Also this hour…from the “Matt Schaub burger” to a downtown Houston skyscraper for sale to hawking mattresses from a hospital bed, we discuss “The Good, The bad, and The Ugly” in Houston news this week.

And…in honor of Space City – and since furloughed NASA workers will probably spend the afternoon watching the new film Gravity – we’ll discuss how successfully Hollywood has portrayed the experience of being in outer space.
