Police are searching for a man who escaped shackles after his bond hearing when left unattended during a courtroom brawl on Tuesday.

32-year-old Michael Devon Combs yesterday escaped his leg shackles and left the courtroom after police left him unattended to respond to a fight that broke out in another courtroom seconds after Frank DeLeon Jr. pleaded guilty to murdering his former girlfriend, Diamond Alvarez.

A video from KHOU shows family members of Alvarez and DeLeon getting into a fist fight after Anna Machado, Alvarez’s mother, sprung at DeLeon before bailiffs intervened to break up the brawl.

Minutes before, 20-year-old DeLeon agreed to a plea deal, and a judge issued him a 45-year sentence for shooting and killing 16-year-old Alvarez while she was walking her dog near her southwest Houston home last year.

Combs escaped from the building during the altercation at 1201 Franklin St. after his bond was revoked, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. He was last seen fleeing the courthouse around 10 a.m. yesterday.

Combs had formerly been accused of domestic abuse and last year was charged for assaulting his girlfriend, records show. Combs violated his bond conditions and was accused of turning off his GPS monitor.

Police are encouraging anyone with information of his whereabouts to call 911 or contact Crime Stoppers of Houston.
