We launch a week-long series exploring “The State of Houston” with a conversation about Greater Houston’s economy on this edition of Houston Matters. We’ll talk with News 88.7 FM business reporter Andrew Schneider about the impact of recent low oil prices on Houstonians, recent developments in construction, whether real estate remains a seller’s market, and whether Houston is as diversified as we want it to be.

We’ll have similar discussions throughout the week with News 88.7 FM reporters about the state of Houston’s health, transportation, environment, and education.

Also this hour: As we do every month, Houston Matters once again goes to the dogs…and cats, as we welcome in veterinarian Dr. Lori Teller from the Meyerland Animal Clinic to field your feline and canine questions. (A few of your fellow listeners have asked if we could expand beyond dogs and cats to include other animal companions and even exotic pets — we’ll seek to do so in a future installment, but on this show, we’ll stick to the cats and dogs).

And: We’ll discuss the latest developments in Houston sports with CultureMap Houston’s MK Bower.
