The FBI on Thursday conducted “court authorized law enforcement activity” at the home of a top Houston Independent School District official, as well as at an HISD administration building, the agency and district confirmed Thursday.

The FBI said agents investigated the northwest Houston home of HISD COO Brian Busby, and FBI and IRS officials were seen exiting the Hattie Mae White building around 11 a.m. Thursday. Both HISD and the FBI said there was no danger to students, staff or the public.

Members of the FBI and IRS were carrying boxes and containers from the HISD building, along with a desktop computer.

It was not immediately clear what the officials were investigating.

Busby’s role at HISD includes overseeing an annual operating budget of more than $260 million.

Houston Federation of Teachers attorney Sonia Gonzalez said she was on hand to provide union assistance to any of its members.

"Teachers and students are safe, and the district is going about its business as usual, and that's really our main concern at this point,” Gonzalez said.
