Imelda’s Aftermath: Flooded Homes, Shelters, Recovery Resources, And More

Greater Houston is slowly recovering after several days of extreme weather that caused flooding, school closures, gridlocked traffic and at least two deaths.

Greater Houston is slowly recovering after several days of extreme weather that caused flooding, school closures, gridlocked traffic and at least two deaths.

There are multiple shelters open in the area and local governments are highlighting resources to report home damage and get recovery assistance. Most freeways have reopened, except for sections of East Interstate 10. And Houston’s two major airports, Bush Intercontinental and Hobby, are back in operation.

Humble ISD: All schools are closed on Friday, Sept. 20 and are scheduled to reopen on Monday, Sept. 23.

New Caney ISD: All schools are closed on Friday, Sept. 20.

Spring ISD: All schools are closed on Friday, Sept. 20.

To report a flooded or damaged home to Harris County, fill out this form or call the Harris County Engineering Department – Permits Office at 713-274-3880 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
