Administrators with the Houston Independent School District have launched a review of all the afternoon bus routes, as the district continues to try and resolve problems with its transportation system.

The review will try to ensure all routes have the right schedule and can actually be completed in the time allotted. It follows a similar survey of all the morning bus routes.

Parents have been complaining about late buses and delays since the start of the school year.

In August, HISD launched a new bus system that replaced neighborhood stops with fewer pick-up and drop-off locations. Problems started that week and, since then, one late bus prompted one student to head to the emergency room. The district is also trying to hire more bus drivers, since there’s a critical shortage of drivers. They’ve also tried to improve safety with a new badge system.

Interim Transportation Chief John Wilcots said in a statement that he wants parents to know that he hears them. He said that he’s seen some routes with unrealistic stops.

“They want us to get these afternoon routes reviewed and updated, and that’s what we’re going to do,” Wilcots said in the statement.
