UPDATE: DPS Calls Off Evacuation at Texas Capitol after Responding to Suspicious Package

State Rep. Matt Schaefer had said on Twitter his office and nearby offices were evacuated

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) called off an evacuation at the Texas Capitol on Tuesday afternoon after responding to a suspicious package and letter that were delivered to a state representative's office.

DPS officers, including the DPS Bomb Squad, responded to the scene. A limited area of the Capitol Extension was evacuated as a “precautionary measure.”

DPS subsequently cleared the scene and no viable threat was discovered. The area was reopened to the public.

State Rep. Matt Schaefer, R-Tyler, had tweeted that his Capitol office and other nearby offices had been evacuated due to a suspicious package.
