A Galveston high school student was placed in custody Tuesday for taking a handgun to school, officials reported.

Ball High School said in a statement sent to parents and staff that the Police for the Galveston Independent School District retrieved a 25-caliber handgun without ammunition.

A concerned student had reported knowledge of an alleged weapon on campus.

The school was placed on lock down. It was lifted at 10:01 a.m. and an investigation is underway.

Another incident involving a firearm and a school occurred on Monday in Conroe.

The Conroe Independent School District reported a student was found with a gun at a 9th grade campus.

According to district officials, it didn’t seem as if there was any intent for the student to use the handgun at school and no threats were made.

The district did not disclose whether the gun was loaded.
