La Porte ISD Student Charged after Allegedly Displaying Gun in Parking Lot

17-year-old Daunte Scott is facing a charge of Exhibition of a Firearm, which is a third-degree felony

A La Porte ISD student is facing charges, after allegedly displaying a handgun in the La Porte High School parking lot on Tuesday afternoon.

Daunte Scott, 17, was taken into custody after a school resource officer was notified and immediately conducted an investigation of the incident, according to the La Porte Police Department.

La Porte ISD said several students informed administrators of the handgun, who then activated the school’s resource officer. Scott re-enrolled in the district on that same day, according to the district.

Once again, we applaud the actions of the students who ‘said something,'” said a statement La Porte ISD posted on its website. “Please take this as an opportunity to remind your child that safety and security is everyone's responsibility, and if they see or hear something that concerns them, they should always say something.”

Daunte is facing a charge of Exhibition of a Firearm, which is a third-degree felony. He was transported to Harris County Jail Tuesday evening.
