HISD May Freeze Teacher Pay

The plan is up for a vote next week

Houston ISD teachers may see their salaries frozen for the coming school year at the same level as last year.

The Houston Chronicle reports the district's compensation proposal for this year prevents any salary increases.

HISD officials project hundreds of teaching positions will be cut in 2018-19 under the approved budget.

The plan is up for a vote next week.

Victor Treviño III, a teacher at Austin High School, created a viral video on July 26, 2018, warning HISD could lower teachers’ salaries the upcoming year.

"If you really care about students' achievement, we need to be able to attract and retain the most highly qualified teachers in those classrooms," said Treviño to KHOU.
