Man With Assault Weapon Shot By Harris County Deputy

Authorities said Eric Briggs was armed with an assault weapon when he showed up at a northeast Harris County pool party

Harris County Sheriff’s officials said a man has been shot and wounded by a deputy responding to a call about a disturbance between a boyfriend and girlfriend.

Authorities said Eric Briggs was armed with an assault weapon when he showed up at a northeast Harris County pool party demanding to see his girlfriend.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said when two deputies arrived, Briggs refused to drop his gun, brandished his weapon at one of them and was shot by the second deputy.

Briggs was taken to a hospital after the Saturday evening confrontation and is expected to survive. The shooting remains under investigation.

The sheriff said Briggs is being charged with aggravated assault against a peace officer. Records show he has a previous charge for a May incident involving his girlfriend.
