A 23-year-old from Spring who tried to join ISIS in Syria, was sentenced Monday to 18 months in prison, according to the Houston Chronicle.
The sentence is followed by 5 years of supervision.
The Chron reports the federal judge's sentencing of Asher Abid Khan surprised federal authorities… who had recommended more than 20 years in prison and lifetime supervision.
Khan, a UH mechanical engineering student, reportedly changed his mind while en route to join ISIS fighters in Syria.
