Shelters Housing Migrant Children Have Histories Of Abuse And Allegations Of Neglect

A new report looks at the backgrounds of facilities housing migrant children under the Trump administration’s “zero-tolerance” immigration policy.

Protesters in San Antonio pray during a Rally For Our Children event to protest the Trump administration’s “zero-tolerance” immigration policy.

A new report says some of the shelters taking in migrant children have histories of abuse and allegations of neglect. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner spoke out against the possibility of such a children's facility opening here.

The report comes from Reveal and the Texas Tribune. Ziva Branstetter is a senior editor for Reveal from the Center for Investigative Reporting. In the audio above, she tells Houston Matters host Craig Cohen what she has learned from speaking with a mother who had a child housed at a facility.
