WATCH LIVE: Democratic Congress Members, Immigration Advocates Hold Roundtable On Zero Tolerance Policy At Border

House Homeland Security Committee Democratic delegation is set to tour sites housing immigration children in Texas

Members of the House Homeland Security Committee Democrat Delegation on Monday toured the Casa Padre and Casa Presidente facilities in Brownsville Texas, where immigrant minors who have been separated for their families upon arrival at the border are being hosted.

The tour came a month after the Trump Administration implemented a so-called “zero tolerance” immigration plan that splits undocumented immigrant parents form their children when they show up at the south border asking for asylum. The policy calls for separating children and parents while the adults await prosecution and potential deportation.

The Democratic representatives also hosted a roundtable along with immigration advocates to discuss the impact of the “zero tolerance” plan.

Members in the group scheduled to be at the roundtable included Representative Filemon Vela, Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, Representative Joaquin Castro, Secretary Julian Castro, the American Civil Liberties Union, and members of the Sierra Club.
