The Houston Regional Amber Alert System announced Thursday night that Jennifer Castillo, a 12 year-old Honduran immigrant who had been missing since Tuesday, was found and was safe.

Earlier on Thursday, investigators with the Houston Police Department (HPD) had said Castillo might have been kidnapped.

Castillo had been seen by family members on Tuesday, May 8, around 7 p.m. for the last time. She was talking on the phone at an apartment complex located at 6601 Harbor Town Drive, in southwest Houston.

Detective A. Vinogradov said during a news briefing held at HPD headquarters on Thursday morning there had been “a credible threat” to Castillo's life.

According to the investigators, Castillo's mother lives in Honduras and the girl lives in Houston with relatives.
