Governor Greg Abbott is heading to the Texas-Mexico border, later this afternoon where he'll be meeting with Texas National Guard troops.

Abbott said Monday he’ll increase the number of Texas National Guard troops being deployed to the US-Mexico border to at least a thousand adding about 300 troops a week.

Texas has already kept a presence of about 100 Guard members on the border for several years.

President Trump has called for an increase in troops along the border, to help with immigration enforcement.
