Cypress College officials said a 24-year-old man was arrested in Pico Rivera, CA on suspicion of making a threat against Cypress College, prompting the campus to shut down.
According to the Cypress College website, classes remain cancelled throughout the morning, and the reopening time of the campus is currently being discussed.
The school’s Communications Director, Marc Posner, confirmed to abc7 that a former student has been taken into custody. The suspect’s identity was not immediately known.
School officials deemed the threat as credible based on the suspect’s “behavioral issues” in the past, Posner said.
After meeting with Whittier PD officials, it has been determined there was no credible threat made towards Cypress College. The individual involved has been detained for a mental health evaluation and we are working with Cypress College officials to alleviate any concerns.
