Houston Health Department Confirms Season’s First Pediatric Flu-Associated Death

Houston Health Department confirms the season’s first pediatric flu-associated death within the city

The CDC recommends a yearly vaccine for people 6 months and older.

A boy between the ages of 6 and 10 is the city's first flu-associated pediatric death of the season, the Houston Health Department (HHD) confirmed. The child, who died in early February, had pre-existing health conditions that contributed to his death. No other information about the case has been released.

With flu activity has remained high, and HHD has encouraged people 6-months and older to get vaccinated. Those 65 and older, pregnant women, young children and those with chronic health conditions are at higher risk for serious complications or death if they get the flu.
