How A Government Shutdown Could Impact Houstonians

Jay Aiyer of Texas Southern University and City Council Member Dave Martin join Houston Matters to explain how a government shutdown could affect Greater Houston.

Will the federal government shut down tonight? That’s the question looming over Washington.

The House passed a short-term spending measure Thursday night, and now it’s up to the Senate to approve this latest 30-day continuing resolution. They don’t have long to do so. The deadline is midnight, and some matters tied up in Congress have a direct impact on Houston, such as disaster relief measures and DACA.

So, how might a government shutdown affect Greater Houston?

Houston Matters host Craig Cohen talks it over with two guests: Jay Aiyer from Texas Southern University and co-host of Houston Public Media’s Party Politics podcast, and Houston City Council Member Dave Martin.
