Carol Ellinger Haddock was formally appointed as director of the Department of Public Works and Engineering by the Houston City Council on January 10th 2018.

The Houston City Council gave the final approval on Wednesday to the appointment of Carol Ellinger Haddock as the director of the Department of Public Works and Engineering.

Mayor Sylvester Turner already notified Council members of his decision to appoint Ellinger Haddock, who is the first woman to hold that position for the City, but the appointment required a final confirmation.

As she addressed the Council members, Ellinger Haddock –who is an engineer and has been working for the City for more than 12 years— told them she is committed to being “straightforward” and added: “we will be transparent in what we do.”

The Council also approved changing the department's name to Houston Public Works.
