Police is investigating a possible murder-suicide at the San Luis Hotel early Monday morning.

THE LATEST on a suspected murder-suicide at the San Luis Hotel and Resort in Galveston, Texas: (all times local):

5:15 p.m.

Police say the four people who were shot to death in a Southeast Texas beachfront hotel were family members.

Investigators are looking at the shootings early Monday at the San Luis Resort in Galveston as possibly being a triple killing followed by a suicide in which the mother was the shooter. Galveston police Capt. Josh Schirard says the victims were a 37-year-old woman, a 39-year-old man and two boys ages 10 and 5. They were from Baytown about 35 miles north of Galveston.

Schirard says the family checked in Sunday evening at the upscale hotel.

Police were summoned to the 250-room hotel on the Gulf of Mexico after a guest in a nearby room on the eighth floor called police about 4:30 a.m. Monday and reported popping sounds. Officers entered the locked room and found the man and two boys in bed with apparent gunshot wounds and the woman on the floor, also with a gunshot wound.

Police say a fourth person has died as a result of gunfire in an apparent murder-suicide at an upscale beachfront hotel in Southeast Texas.

Galveston Police Capt. Josh Schirard says three people were found dead at the scene around 4:30 a.m. Monday at the San Luis (loo-EE’) Resort. Schirard says a fourth person, a woman, was discovered wounded and transported to a hospital, where she later died.

Schirard says another guest reported hearing a popping sound from a nearby room on the 8th floor and called the police.

Officers entered the locked room and found three bodies, plus the fourth person who was seriously wounded.

Galveston police didn’t immediately release the names of any of the four people. All had been staying together in the room where the bodies were found.

Police didn’t immediately release further details.

Schirard says the four people shot had been staying together in the room where the bodies were found.

Police have not released their names or other details.
