Former Houston City Council Member Peter Brown died on December 12, 2017, at the age of 81.

Former Houston City Council member Peter Brown died Tuesday at the age of 81, his family announced.

His son, City Controller Chris Brown, made the announcement via Twitter and explained his father had passed away “after a long battle with cancer.”

Brown, who distinguished himself as an advocate of urban planning and pedestrians, run for Mayor of Houston in 2009, but he didn’t win the election.
