Houston’s flooding is receding but parts of the city are still underwater. The immediate danger seems to have passed, but that does not mean the challenges are over.
It is important to still be aware of shelters operating in the city as more residents try to relocate.
If you have a group that needs to be taken to a shelter, you're asked to call: 713-426-9404.
The Red Cross has provided a live map of their current emergency shelters.
It allows you to enter your address and find the nearest shelter to you.
Everyone is welcome at a Red Cross shelter. The Red Cross does not discriminate based on nationality, race, religious beliefs, class, disability, political opinions, sexual orientation, or gender identity. If you need to leave your home due to a disaster or emergency, you are welcome to come to a Red Cross shelter.
Houston Public Media has maintained a compiled list of open shelters.
