Teenager Survives Being Smuggled Across The Border In Sweltering Trailer

We learn about Brandon Martinez, a 16-year-old who survived last month’s deadly human smuggling incident in San Antonio.

Brandon Martinez, 16, lies in a hospital bed while his father, Jose de Jesus Martinez, visits in the intensive care unit at North Central Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

Last month, 16-year-old Brandon Martinez was one of nearly 40 undocumented immigrants discovered inside a sweltering truck in San Antonio. He survived, but ten people who were with him died. A federal grand jury has indicted the driver accused of transporting them.

Martinez was hospitalized for nearly two weeks, and NPR's John Burnett recently talked with him about his story and his recovery. Burnett tells us more.
