Texas Rains Bring Power Outages, Street Flooding, Rescues

Weather in Texas worsens.

A record-setting amount of rain has fallen in parts of Texas, knocking out power to thousands, flooding streets and forcing high-water rescues.

National Weather Service meteorologist Aaron Treadway said Monday the storm system began forming in West Texas over the weekend and over the course of 24 hours brought up to 7 inches of rain to some parts of Hill Country.

He says up to 3 inches has fallen Monday along a broad stretch of the state that includes San Antonio and Austin. Part of San Antonio set a single-day record for Aug. 7 with nearly 4 inches.

San Antonio firefighters were called to assist motorists stranded by high water, and at least one neighborhood in the city was evacuated.

Heavy rains were anticipated later Monday for Houston and East Texas.
