Prison Education: How Programs Are Taking Education Beyond Bars

One of the largest correctional education programs in the state just graduated its largest class in its 51-year history. Lee College Huntsville Center offers college courses for credit to incarcerated individuals in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice system. We talk with Donna Zuniga Dean of Lee College program, Brandon Warren from the Lee College Huntsville Center about their program.

Also Dr. Krista Gehring a criminal justice professor at the UH-Downtown compares prison education today to what was offered 51 years ago. We also consider what the data on how these programs play into recidivism rates, how federal funding impacts these programs, and the potential future of that funding.
